Samsung flips out with Galaxy Folder 2 clamshell phone

Galaxy Folder 2The new phone is possibly called the Folder because... it foldsSamsung
Thought that the flip-phone was dead? Think again. Samsung has just launched the Galaxy Folder 2, an Android Marshmallow-packing smartphone that puts a contemporary spin on mid-2000s handset design.
The Galaxy Folder 2 is a follow up to 2013's Galaxy Folder. The handset features a physical keyboard and 3.8in 800 x 480 WVGA LCD display powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 425 processor and 2GB RAM. There's only 16GB of on-board storage, although this can be expanded all the way up to 128GB with a microSD card.
The rear-facing camera packs a not-terrible 8MP sensor, and there's a secondary 5MP camera on the front.
All of this is powered by a 1,950mAh battery, which seems tiny by today's standards but is probably more than enough to keep a device of this calibre ticking along happily – up to an impressive 318 hours on standby, according to Samsung.
The Galaxy Folder 2 is only available in China and Samsung hasn't said anything on pricing or availability outside of the country, so flip-phone enthusiasts in the UK – if there are any out there – shouldn't get their hopes up.
Personally, we think that flip-phones are something that should stay in the past, similarly to pagers, bowls cuts and optimism. Although that's not to say they aren't without their uses.
